Ohio Public Works Commission Awards $13.9M to District 18 Region

In December, the Ohio Public Works Commission (OPWC)'s Public Works Integrating Committee (PWIC) awarded over $13.9 million to 22 projects in the District 18 region through the State Capital Improvements Program (SCIP) and the Local Transportation Improvements Program (LTIP) for Program Year 28 (2014).

The SCIP and LTIP provide financial assistance to local communities for the improvement of basic infrastructure systems. Eligible projects include improvements to roads, bridges, culverts, water supply systems, wastewater systems, storm water collection systems and solid waste disposal facilities. County, city, village, township and other infrastructure districts located in the region were eligible to apply.

“The Ohio Public Works program is a great resource for our local communities in helping repair and maintain safe roads and local water and wastewater infrastructure,” said Buckeye Hills Development Director Bret Allphin. “There were 51 projects competing for the OPWC funds with 22 being funded.  Two projects are noted as contingency and an additional seven projects will be considered for small government funding to be announced in May 2014.”

Buckeye Hills-Hocking Valley Regional Development District (BHHVRDD) administers the
District 18 OPWC program including processing and reviewing project grant and loan requests from local governments. After evaluating and scoring the projects, the local Public Works Integrating Committee submits a list of projects to the OPWC. Final project approval is given by the OPWC.
